How to Make Massage Candle

How to Make Massage Candles

The practice of candle massage is becoming increasingly popular due to its benefits. From physical and psychological wellness to soothing and gentle properties, we will explain the formula, application, and benefits to ensure a gentle experience!

I. About Candle Massage

Candle massage is a modernized massage technique that uses special candles.

It has soothing, soft, and gentle characteristics. It offers a gentle approach physically and emotionally for the receiver. Indeed, massage candles contain pure oils that nourish and soften your skin by providing greater elasticity to the epidermis layer.

II. Wax Choice: Opt for soy wax!

The main ingredient of massage candles is soy wax with a low melting point (50°C) but also skin-safe. Adding oil and/or butter will lower the melting point by a few degrees.

We recommend using soy wax for container candles (C3). It's 100% soy. Additionally, we advise using coconut oil to create smoothness for the wax, and shea butter will nurture your skin in moments.

What makes massage candles unique is that the soy wax melts at a low temperature and can be poured directly onto the skin for massage. When making massage candles, it's important to use high-quality soy wax that has been dermatologically tested, such as GW415. If you want to add fragrance or essential oils, make sure to use skin-safe options! With the romantic glow of the candle's flame and the gentle warmth of the melting oil on the skin, it will undoubtedly be a massage session you'll never forget!

III. How to Make Massage Candle

Candle massage is a luxurious therapeutic method like no other! You'll be surprised to know that you can quickly make massage candles in the microwave without needing or using very few candle-making supplies.

1. Supplies and Candle Massage Ingredients

  • 4 ounces of pure soy wax
  • 4 ounces shea butter
  • 3 ounces jojoba oil
  • 3 ounces of unrefined cocoa butter
  • ¼ teaspoon (40 drops) vanilla essential oil
  • ¼ teaspoon (40 drops) lavender essential oil
  • 4 4-ounce amber glass jars with lids
  • 4 natural cotton wicks for soy wax dipping

2. How to Make Massage Candles

First, use a digital kitchen scale to accurately measure each ingredient. Combine 3 ounces of unrefined cocoa butter and 4 ounces of soy wax in a large glass measuring cup.

Melt the cocoa butter and soy wax in the microwave for approximately 45 seconds at 50% power, stirring halfway through. Repeat until completely melted.

Next, remove the mixture from the microwave and add 4 ounces of shea butter, stirring slowly until the shea butter melts.

Then, add 3 ounces of jojoba oil and slowly whisk it into the mixture to combine. Dip the metal base of a wick into the wax mixture and secure it in the center of the glass jar. Repeat until you have filled all four jars.

Check the temperature of the mixture with a non-contact infrared thermometer. At 125°F or less, add ¼ teaspoon (40 drops) of vanilla essential oil and ¼ teaspoon of lavender essential oil to the wax mixture. Stir while adding the oils for 1 to 2 minutes to enhance the fragrance.

Now, use a heat gun to warm each glass jar before pouring the mixture to reduce shrinkage. Check the wax temperature; at 99°F, pour it into the glass jars, leaving space for the wick to sit snugly under the jar lid.

Place a wick holder on each wick to help keep them straight during the cooling process. Allow each candle to dry for a minimum of 24 hours before lighting. However, for a stronger scent, wait 3 to 7 days.

Finally, trim the wick to ¼ inch using a wick trimmer before lighting.

IV. Tips for Making Massage Candles

You can vary the fragrant oils, but remember to check the recommended dosage in the cosmetic certificate (available for download at the end of each of our fragrance oils) to apply to the skin without rinsing.

Like any product used on the skin, we invite you to test on the wrist to see if you have any allergic reactions to any of the candle's ingredients. It would be a shame if all these efforts turned into a nightmare!

Add a small amount of natural butter to provide an even better skin-softening effect. Try shea butter, cocoa butter, or mango butter.

Do not add color to massage candles unless you also want to add color to your skin!

If you add essential oils, make sure you use skin-safe options.

V. How to Use Massage Candles

To use the candle, light it and let it burn for 5-15 minutes or until a significant amount of warm wax has formed. During this time, the aroma of the essential oils will begin to fill the air. Now extinguish the flame and pour the warm oil directly into your palm, then massage it onto the skin using your fingertips. The first time you do this, you'll be surprised at how comfortable the warm oil temperature feels.

Please note that if you let the candle burn for longer than half an hour, the tin may become hot. Be careful when lifting it and make sure that the oil temperature is not too hot. When sealed, the candles will have a shelf life of up to two years. We hope you have a great time making and using these romantic candles.

VI. Conclusion

Scented massage candles melt into luxurious massage oils, slowly penetrating the skin, and leaving it bright, pampered, soft, and smooth. How to Make Massage Candle: FAQs

1. What is The Best Type of Wax for Massage Candles?

The best wax for making massage candles is not only safe for the skin but also has a low melting point (which we'll discuss more later). Therefore, look for waxes used in skincare formulas, such as lotions, eye creams, or lip balms.

They include a list of wax types below that will leave your skin very moisturized and soft after using massage candles.

Best waxes for massage candles:

  • NatureWax C-3 Soy Wax Flakes or Pure Soy Wax Pellets
  • Beeswax Coconut Butter
  • Blended Coconut Wax with Pure Soy Wax or Beeswax

2. Can Massage Candles Burn You?

If you make massage candles using ingredients with a low melting point and use them correctly, they will never burn you.

This is the second main difference in making massage candles compared to other types I talked about before. You want the massage candles to be ready for use fairly quickly so that they do not burn but instead warm the ingredients while melting.

In other words, we have to choose ingredients with a low melting point so the candle melts and creates a pool on top before it gets hot.

This is why soy wax is a common ingredient in massage candles.
