How often can you have reflexology?

How often can you have reflexology?

How often can you have reflexology? This is a question we are often asked, and it is a difficult one because no one size fits all. This depends on your needs and budget. Generally, a person responds very well to weekly treatments until they feel an improvement in symptoms, when it is better to extend the interval between treatment sessions to once every two weeks, then up to four times per week or monthly.

It really depends on what symptoms you're experiencing and what's going on with your health.

1. Do you have any body problems that you would like help with?

How often can you have reflexology? If you have some ongoing problems, such as anxiety or tension in a particular area, difficulty sleeping, etc., you may benefit from weekly or fortnightly treatments for a while, followed by additional appointments every three to four weeks.

2. Do you want an appointment to help you maintain your health?

How often can you have reflexology? If you are doing well and are having reflexology treatments to maintain your health, then it is best to make an appointment once or twice a month, although there is no reason why you cannot make a weekly appointment if you wish.

3. What is the maximum rest period between two reflexology sessions?

While there is no definitive answer to this, we would say that the maximum time off between appointments would be about 6 weeks. It's worth remembering that treatments are cumulative, so the more often you treat, the better your overall results will be as each treatment adds to the final treatment effects.

It's like going to the gym, eating a healthy diet, or weeding your garden. If you do any of these things once, you will make some progress towards your goals, but doing them regularly and consistently will yield better results. Going to the gym, eating healthy, or weeding the garden once a year is great, but doing it regularly is even better!

4. Can you have a maximum number of treatments per week?

Again, your budget will likely be the deciding factor in how many treatments you can have in a week. We recommend a maximum of two or three treatments a week for most clients, although this is not set in stone and sometimes a series of short appointments can be beneficial.

In the long term, we recommend a maximum of 1 or 2 acupressure treatments per week. In the later stages of pregnancy (37 weeks and beyond), a twice-weekly acupressure appointment may be helpful.

5. What are the benefits of regular reflexology treatments?

The benefit is that it helps you feel a little better. If you feel stressed and have to have regular treatments, that stress will likely be less than if you didn't get regular treatments. Additionally, coming to treatment means you receive regular support.

Booking your next appointment at the end of your current appointment will ensure that you have secured the time you want to log and that you do not miss out on next month's sitting time. You may have to wait or miss an appointment if your therapist is fully booked, or you will have to miss other appointments and your work.

6. What can you expect during your first reflexology session?

6.1. The intake

Your therapist will conduct a brief medical history and examination in case acupressure is not the best treatment option for you. The therapist will explain how reflexology works and what to expect during the acupressure session. Reflexologists also inform you that reflexology does not treat specific diseases and is not a substitute for medical treatment. You may be asked to sign a form agreeing on the intensity, pressure, and techniques you want to apply.

Ask your therapist if you have any concerns. It's normal and even expected for you to ask questions. You will feel comfortable communicating with the reflexology therapist.

6.2. Starting a reflexology treatment

Therapists can choose to only work on the feet, hands, or ears, depending on your specific health problem. Some problems respond better to increased activity in all three hands, ears, and feet. Each person's needs are different. For example, a patient in a hospital may have an IV and multiple tubes and wires, so a reflexology session may be limited to just the feet if necessary.

Regardless of your health condition (e.g., migraines, nausea, sciatica, etc.), a reflexologist will focus on the entire model of acupressure therapy, starting with the toes, legs, and feet. A complete reflexology session uses a variety of techniques and includes all acupressure points on both feet (and perhaps hands and ears).

By affecting all points, the reflexology therapist will target internal organs and glands as well as muscle groups, bones, nerve ganglia, and nerves (sciatica) in one session.

If you have a specific condition, such as migraines, the acupressure practitioner will carefully feel and work on the area that corresponds to the problem at hand. However, they will also work all areas of the foot with gentle pressure, as according to reflexology theory, this allows nerve pathways and blockages to be released and promotes a relaxation response.

In-session feedback is encouraged, and of course, you can request to stop the session at any time.

6.3. Ending a reflexology session

Most reflexologists have some way of ending a session in a calm, peaceful way, including stroking the hands or feet and holding the limb in some way. The important aspect is that you feel comforted and nurtured.

Now that the session is over, you shouldn't feel rushed. Gently bring yourself back to the present moment and orient yourself. You can enjoy a cup of warm soup and herbal tea to balance your body.

You should drink water, rest if necessary, and pay attention to your body over the next few hours. If any questions or concerns arise, you can call your doctor.

6.4. After reflexology treatment

Various reactions can occur after a reflexology session. These are also very subtle and often go unnoticed by many people due to acupressure therapy. Many reactions are positive signs that the session is part of the healing process. Other symptoms are signs that the body is trying to return to a state of balance and harmony. Symptoms usually last for 24–48 hours.
